What Are the Different Types of Headaches?

The three most common types of headaches are tension, migraine, and cluster headaches.

  • Tension headaches are caused by muscle tension, which is why they tend to affect your neck, shoulders, and scalp.
  • Migraine headaches tend to be more severe and usually cover one side of your head.
  • Cluster headaches are typically behind one eye and may be accompanied by tearing, redness, nasal congestion, runny nose, and in some cases, vomiting and diarrhea. These headaches are the result of an over-activity of certain natural substances in the body, and they tend to occur at the same time of day and in the same place.

In order to figure out whether or not your headache is a cause for concern, you should definitely try to identify which type of headache you’re experiencing. If you have a prolonged or disabling headache then definitely go see your doctor and make sure that there is nothing more serious going on!
